The United States strongly condemns the January 1 murder of Emmanuel Niyonkuru, the Burundian Minister of Water, Environment, and Planning. Our thoughts and our prayers are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time. We also offer our heartfelt condolences to the people and Government of Burundi. We hope the perpetrators will rapidly be brought to justice.
